What to Wear to Your Northern AZ Portrait Session

The question my clients ask me most often is, “What should I wear for my photos?” If this question sounds familiar, never fear! Here are some of my favorite tips and tricks for picking the perfect outfit.

The most important thing is making sure you’ll be comfortable. Since we’ll be shooting outside, remember to dress for the temperature- here in Northern Arizona, that changes quickly! Make sure you wear shoes that you can walk in on a dirt trail and that you don’t mind getting a little dusty. If you feel good, you’ll look even better! If you’ll be bringing an additional outfit, dress for the ease of a quick, possibly outdoor change since there may not be an available restroom. It will also be helpful to bring along a comb, hair pins, and makeup for any touch-ups

Naturally, the weather will have some say in what you’ll be wearing, but never fear! Braving the elements can make for dramatic, memorable photos. Long, flowy dresses in the wind, bundling up against the snow, or brightly-colored umbrellas in the rain are just a few ways to add a creative flair to your session, rain or shine.

Bringing fun props is a great way to make your photos your own, ESPECIALLY for engagement and graduation sessions. DIY crafts, items that hold significance, or funky clothing are just some ideas- in short, bring whatever tells your story. This session is just a fun way to share your personality with the world, so let’s do it your way!

When it comes to dressing any young kiddos or infants, it’s especially important that they’ll be comfortable in the cold or wind. If they’re mobile, make sure their clothes and shoes can get dirty. If you’re worried about your littles staying focused, it can help to bring small toys or snacks to keep them happy. These can make for cute props as well. Of course, I’ll have my own supply of backup bubbles just in case!
