Sedona, AZ Family Photos: What to Expect
I get it - booking a family photo session can seem daunting! It’s not easy deciding on outfits and getting the family to stay on track, especially with kids or extended relatives. That’s why I’ve put together a list of tips and tricks to answer some of the questions my clients ask most frequently.
Picking outfits everyone is comfortable with inside and out is essential. Expressing yourself through your clothing is crucial - I only ask you to stay away from colors that will be highly similar to our background. Greens, blues, and other jewel tones look great in Sedona. I recommend wearing walking shoes between shots and carrying dress shoes for the photos to put on while we’re shooting. The same goes for jackets and bags. If there are some really little kiddos attending, it can also be helpful to bring a backup outfit or jacket just in case they get dirty.
If your family has young kiddos who will be attending our photo session, it can be helpful to bring along some toys or a non-messy snack to help keep them happy and occupied. We’ll take some goofy pictures anyways to get a few candid shots of kids being kids, so temporarily adding in a comforting item as a prop will fit right in.
Lastly, the most important thing is to relax as much as you can - this should be a fun experience! Having energetic families or kids can make some people nervous and worried about getting enough “nice” pictures. My philosophy is to get a few formal shots right off the bat and spend the rest of the session with some more relaxed or even candid photos. This takes the stress out of having to stay still the whole time and allows us to take photos that really capture your family’s dynamic.
