Flagstaff Wedding Photographer: A Walk Through of the Big Day

Weddings can be stressful to arrange - that’s no secret. Between getting every detail just right, to choosing the perfect venue, to hiring vendors and a photographer, planning a wedding can be daunting to newly-engaged couples who don’t know what to expect. In many cases, the big day is partially orchestrated by the wedding photographer, who has to be present at every moment, big and small. To ease some anxiety around getting your wedding to flow, here’s what it will probably look like from my perspective:

Lots of wedding venues have on-site suites for the wedding party (or at least half of them) to get ready. Some couples want photos while actually getting ready, some want to stage these photos, and some want none at all. All of these options are totally fine, as long as you communicate with your photographer, venue, and day-of coordinator. (Your photographer will likely tell you whether this can be included in your photo package.)

After the wedding party is ready, we will likely take some formal portraits. If you’ll be doing a first look, this will be right after everyone is finished getting ready, and followed by bridal party portraits. If you and your partner’s first look will be at the altar, then we will take this time for portraits of each half of the bridal party. After this, while everyone takes some time to calm their nerves and make any finishing touches, I’ll take some shots of your wedding details.

Next will likely be the ceremony, where I’ll be standing in the aisle and off to the side to capture this special moment. We’ll do photos of just you and your partner as well as family photos after this, and any other posed shots on your shot list.

Last comes photographing your reception. This includes everything from cutting the cake, to toasts, to mayhem on the dance floor. This will likely require your photographer to use a flash on or off of their camera. If this will be an issue for any of your guests, make sure to bring it up with your photographer ahead of time. At the end of the night, many newlyweds like to do a grand exit or send off - this is a super fun way to bring the festivities to a close and start your life together!

No two weddings are the same, or really even similar. However, one thing that I will always say is to HIRE A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER and create a list of specific moments you know you want to be photographed. So much happens on your wedding day that it is nearly impossible to retain all of the happy memories. Images from a professional will capture these moments and freeze them to look back on for years to come.
