Travel: Arizona Photographer Travels to the California Coast

Last month, I had the pleasure of traveling to the California coast for a much-needed break from the desert heat and business of grad photo season. My partner and I traveled through Encinitas, Carlsbad, and Oceanside, and of course, I had to stop and take as many photos as possible along the way. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the trip.

Encinitas, California

Perhaps my favorite town in California, we spent a large portion of the trip walking on the beach and inspecting tidepools for ocean critters.

Carlsbad, California

As a last-minute addition to our itinerary, we stopped at the Carlsbad Flower Fields - and were so glad that we did! Fifty-five acres of gorgeous ranunculus flowers was any portrait photographer’s dream. A cloudy walk through the ranunculus fields and other cheerful landscaped gardens was definitely a highlight of our trip.

Oceanside, California

During our walk through Oceanside and along the historic Oceanside Pier, I actually decided to leave my camera gear at our inn and stay present in the moment. As much as I love being a photographer, sometimes it’s a nice change of pace to sightsee without my beloved Nikon in my hands! A beautiful walk along the beach in ocean-soaked jeans was the perfect way to spend our last outing of the trip. A little beach trip was just what I needed to clear my head and get ready to dive back into photography in Phoenix!
