Phoenix Photographer: A Recap of 2023

In 2023, my photography grew in so many ways that I never expected. There are almost too many highlights to count, like photographing a friend’s surprise proposal, documenting the 65th annual Hashknife Pony Express reenactment, my NAU Photography Capstone, taking senior portraits for my NAU classmates (some in a bathtub), flying to Alabama to take another friend’s graduation portraits, and of course, moving my business from Flagstaff to Phoenix.

This year, I also learned the importance of photographing small moments that aren’t formally “meant” to be photographed. Graduating college, moving back to my hometown of Phoenix, and starting pieces of my business over again reminded me of the importance of being present, mindful, and grateful for the now. Expressing that through my art has made these transitions tremendously easier. It has also helped me grow as a photographer and person. I had been so focused on helping others treasure the little moments in pictures that I almost overlooked doing that for myself, but not anymore. In 2023, I shot a lot of professional images and hugely expanded my portfolio. I also learned to shoot for myself in personal moments, like my friends getting ready to watch Barbie, my parents and sister hiking, my partner making me smile, and behind the scenes with fellow photographers. There are a few of these “unprofessional” images in this post in celebration of these little moments that can mean so much and have helped me find my values in life and art. This has also even furthered my appreciation for capturing these moments for other people.

So in honor of the growth of my business, my photography, and myself, here are a few of my favorite images from this past year.
