Seeing a chance of rain or snow on the day of a photoshoot can be enough to send you into a panic. Do I have to change my outfit? Should I reschedule? What about my hair? There are a million questions that wet weather can bring up. Luckily, there are plenty of tips and tricks to make your session go smoothly, rain or shine.

If the weather is not too extreme, I usually recommend keeping your session as-is rather than rescheduling it. Unless there is lightning, truly torrential rain, or it is unsafe to drive, I always come prepared to shoot with a plastic bag over my camera. Often, rain or snow clouds make for gorgeous backdrops. Watching the NOAA forecast closely, being willing to go with the flow, and keeping in touch with your photographer can help put everyone’s mind at ease. Who knows, maybe we’ll even catch a rainbow.

Bundling up against the weather can make for beautiful photos. Rain boots, beanies, bubble umbrellas, and layered outfits create unique photos while keeping you comfortable. Truly embracing the day’s weather is the best way to stay warm, get natural-looking photos, and have a ton of fun. The weather can almost be used as a prop for candid photos - who doesn’t already love rainy walks or playing in the snow? I figure that if you’re going to get wet anyways, you might as well go all the way and make some memories.

In Arizona, the weather can change very quickly. It can go from bright sunny days to a monsoon in Phoenix or a blizzard in Flagstaff in the blink of an eye. However, with so many options for creating unique photos in the circumstances, there’s nothing to fear but getting a little wet.
